South Korean model-turned-actor Hoyeon received international recognition and critical acclaim after the global success of the Netflix original series, Squid Game, in which she played Kang Sae-byeok, also known as Player 067. Within weeks of the show’s release, she racked up millions of Instagram followers and soon became the most-followed Korean actress on the social platform. For her breakout performance on the show, Hoyeon won the Screen Actors Guild award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Originally from Seoul, Hoyeon began her modeling career in 2011. She competed on the fourth season of Korea's Next Top Model and placed as a runner-up. Her big break came in 2016 when she landed an exclusive global contract with Louis Vuitton. Since then, she has starred in campaigns and walked the runway for top designers like Chanel, Fendi, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs, and Moschino to name a few. She has also been featured in numerous fashion magazines, including international editions of Vogue, ELLE, Harper's Bazaar, W, and V. She is currently a Global Ambassador for Louis Vuitton and Adidas.
Hoyeon added yet another milestone to her list of accomplishments after appearing on US Vogue‘s February 2022 cover. For the first time in the 130-year history of US Vogue, she became the first South Korean to grace the cover as a solo feature for the coveted fashion magazine. Following this, Lancôme appointed her as a brand ambassador in 2023, joining other global muses such as Julia Roberts, Penélope Cruz, Amanda Seyfried, and Zendaya.
She will be seen next in Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón’s new Apple TV+ series titled Disclaimer, set to release in October 2024.
